Unlike many other countries, South Korea has not been in existence for a long time. After the Second World War, the North and the South were divided at the 38th parallel in 1945. Soon thereafter South declared its independence and even elected their first President. With some aid of the United States, the South Korea hurried to established a strong government and to try to recover. In 1998, President Kim Dae-jung attempted to rekindle relations with the North but seemed unsuccessful. Not until 2003 were lines crossed and families in the North and South were able to be reunited. The North and the South still have lasting tensions even up to this day, where in 2013 the President of the North retracted the armistice agreement established after the Korean War. What is the future for these to tense nations? Hopefully the future is much brighter.
